The Portland Democratic City Committee is preparing an Independence Day bash for the history books. On July 2nd, the PDCC, with local dance party maestros Magnetic Artist, is presenting IndepenDance – Rage Against LePage. This dance party promises a way to celebrate our freedoms on this July 4th holiday, with liberal spirits and revolutionary dance floor action. Party music will be provided by local DJ and event producer DJ Silverchild, along with Digital Bonesaw Society. Headlining the event will be the dance floor stylings of Disco Ball Murder Kit. VJ Foo provides the audio and visual fireworks.  Hostess Holly Danger ‘s laser beams of justice fight corporate greed.

Why Are We Raging?
The policies of Paul LePage are detrimental to Maine.  The abolition of same day voting, which accounted for 20,000 people in the last election and 60,000 in the 2008 presidential election, discounts 80,000 potential voting citizens, regardless of their political affiliation. Environmental protection law rollbacks and rule changes will close many green and alternative energy-related businesses resulting in huge job losses and economic catastrophe.  Hostile worker legislation is resulting in weaker unions plus dangerous and unsafe working conditions. LePage’s budget contains tax cuts for the rich and program cuts for low income families, with no plan to create jobs.

House music with South Of Roosevelt & DJ Silverchild

Saturday April 2nd with Josh Laurence

Beat Happenings is bringing in Chicago’s South Of Roosevelt for resident DJ Silverchild’s birthday!  If you miss this show, get a lawyer because your dancing shoes are going to file for divorce.

Josh Laurence of South of Roosevelt (11PM-1AM)
(Chicago – Guest House, Flapjack)
South of Roosevelt, or “SoRo” as sometimes tagged, is held down by 3 individuals brought close through their love of House music and underground Chicago nightlife. Formed in late 2008, their Jackin House sound was an instant hit in the Chicago House scene, playing numerous sweaty loft parties, all night raves, and the hottest clubs across the Chi-town area code.
Turning the page in 2009, Kris, Josh, and JP put their knowledge of Chicago House to task creating their first release titled “The Thank You EP” (Homeschooled Music). Landing in Traxsource and Stompy’s Top 20, the release was an instant hit and became what was the catalyst for their current success. Now, dubbed the crew to watch in 2011, they have been busy in the studio writing and remixing, as well as touring the U.S. from Boston to San Fransisco and everywhere in between. Be on your toes, cuz these guys are always cookin up something ripe for the dance floor.

with resident DJ Silverchild (9-11PM) and our hostess La Funkk!

“Then I found myself in a pub, where the liqueurs were served on a coffin (not a table) by the nickering devil: “Drink it, you wretched!” Having drunk, I returned under the black sky split by the flaming vanes, which the radiant needles of my eyelashes cross-hatched. In front of my nose a stream of bowler hats and black veils was still pulsing, foamy with bluish green and warm orange of feathers worn by the night beauties: to me they were all one, as I had to narrow my eyes for insupportable radiance of electric lamps, whose hectic fires would be dancing beneath my nervous eyelids for many a night to come.” – Andrey Bely about the ‘Tavern of Hell’ at Moulin Rouge

Melt your winter blues away with some magical spirits and blazing hot beats. It’s a Moulin Rouge dance party!
